Excessive size and projection of the nipples can be a source of embarrassment and self-consciousness for both men and women. Fortunately, nipple reduction surgery is generally straightforward and inexpensive.
(Actual Patient, Patient also had Breast Augmentation)
Nipple reduction involves the removal of a chevron-shaped (think of the Chevron logo) area of excessive skin and nipple tissues with repair of the skin edges. I typically recommend an approximately 50% reduction in nipple projection, though the degree of reduction is open to discussion. The resulting scar is a horizontal line limited to the nipple. Nipple scars are usually quite inconspicuous; on many patients, the scars can be difficult to find.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia (with laughing gas, if desired) for an isolated procedure. If nipple reduction is performed in conjunction with another surgery, such as breast augmentation or male breast reduction, then a general anesthetic is used. Nipple reduction surgery is usually $1,250 for one nipple or $1,950 for both nipples.
